The Indian Gothic Literary Magazine was launched in January 2026 by a very small group of readers, writers, and editors who wanted to be part of this venture. You can find them on the Editors page in the footer of this website.
Indian Gothic serves as a heartfelt tribute to the captivating realm of Gothic fiction and its numerous offshoots and sub-genres that have fascinated readers and filmmakers alike for over two centuries. Our mission is to champion new and established voices by publishing short stories and one-act plays that appreciate the conventions of genre writing without falling into the big old predictability trap of tropes and moody settings.
We will present work inspired by India’s Gothic literary heritage (which I believe has existed for centuries now, and remains largely untapped and unrecognised). We at Indian Gothic encourage stories, flash fiction, craft articles and plays that are possibly drawn from the nation’s colonial past, rich history, evocative architecture, diverse cultures, religious practices and rituals, enduring prejudices and belief systems that have survived to date, or even the forgotten ones that once held a place of awe pride within our ancestral legends and myths that have refused to perish even after hundreds of years.
We extend a very warm welcome to all our readers, creative writers, passionate playwrights, and craft nerds, both from India and around the world! Please consider making us your home. Our doors may creak a little, but they remain wide open for anything. We don't charge for entry, and we don't pay for it, as we don't have sponsors or funding of any sort. But if we find a willing partner in the future, we would love to start paying for your work!
